GEO (Generative Engine Optimisation) means making your business easy for ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews to find, understand and cite.
What Google officially says
Google's Search Central documentation says there are no additional requirements and no special optimisations needed to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode — good SEO fundamentals apply (Google Search Central, updated December 2025). Be wary of anyone promising guaranteed AI recommendations.
Seven things you can do now
- Let search engines and AI crawlers read your site (check robots.txt and your CDN's crawler settings)
- Put key facts in text: prices, address, opening hours, shipping and refund policies
- Add structured data (Organization, Product or Service, FAQ) that matches the visible page
- Keep your Google Business Profile accurate and current
- Publish original, useful content with sources that answers real customer questions
- Give each page one clear topic with clear internal links
- Track how AI assistants answer the questions that matter in your category, every month
How do you measure it?
Google Search Console added AI-related performance reports in June 2026 (Google Search Central blog). For ChatGPT, Perplexity and others, the practical method today is a fixed list of questions checked monthly: are you mentioned, and which page is cited?
Does llms.txt help?
llms.txt is an emerging convention: a plain-text summary for AI tools at the root of your site. It is cheap to add, but no search engine has committed to using it, so treat it as a bonus rather than a substitute for the fundamentals. Ours is at soraeworks.com/llms.txt.
